Natural Herbal Treatments for Seasonal Allergies

This viewer asks, what are nutritional and herbal remedies for treating seasonal allergies? Good question because there are many. First off, you want to look at your overall health and consider some of the tips that help reduce your allergies, and this includes your dietary choices because there's often a crossover between foods and environmental allergies. So when we clean up or diet, we can improve upon our allergies, and I mention this in some of the previous videos on cleansing on UHCTV. And some of the nutrients that work and some of my patients report good results are with vitamin C and quercetin, a bioflavonoid that has an antihistamine-like effect.

And many of my patients and myself will take vitamin C, probably 500-1000 milligrams several times a day and quercetin. They often come in 250-500mg capsules and also do those three times a day. And it may take a couple weeks to have an effect on that. Some of the herbs that work at helping reduce allergies commonly are stinging nettle, cat's claw, butter burr, perilla seed which also works for asthma or helps it with asthma and several of those. Now if allergies are fairly bad, it's a good idea to consult with your doctor, and you may even want to see an allergist to do skin testing and then consider either desensitization which is a reduction of allergies through shots or sublingual drops.

Also it's wise to help prevent and reduce your allergic exposure, and you can do this by having a good air purifier at home, one with a HEPA filter, sometimes wear a mask when you're out in the intense part of the day or if you're out in the backyard and you're sensitive to grasses or you're sweeping and you're exposed to dust. Even temporarily that can help that increased exposure. And also it's generally a good idea to consult with your doctor or other practitioner to help oversee and guide you in a proper program for working with natural treatments for allergies.
